Open letter to His Excellency Mahinda Rajapaksa, President of Sri Lanka Dear Mr President |
|
|
Dear Mr President
Your Sri Lanka Cricket Team has just completed a very successful tour of Australia. They played a style of cricket that brought glory to their homeland and they won many new fans in Australia and world wide.
Their brand of cricket also brought out the true character of the Sri Lanka cricket fan in Australia and rarely have we seen, even in Sri Lanka, the atmosphere, the spectacle and the true splendour of song, dance and cheer as created by the Sri Lanka supporters in Sydney and Melbourne.......

The Entertainers Sri Lanka Cricket Team By Harry Solomons |
|
|
If there are two things I can say about the Sri Lankan cricket teams of recent years it is that there is never a dull moment about their cricket and that this current team has, win or lose, made all Sri Lankans very proud.
Last Saturday I bumped into Mitchell Starc (Australia's young fast bowler) at a cricket dinner. Mitchell had just lost his place in the finals of this Tri Series due to a fair "touch up" he had playing Sri Lanka. He told me that the Australians actually enjoy playing the Sri Lankans because while they play their cricket hard, they were friendly, relaxed, smiled and even spoke to the Australian players........

by Mahinda Wijesinghe

Quite a furore was created in the current CB series game between India and Sri Lanka played in Brisbane when Sri Lankan batsman Lahiru Thirimanne, at the non-striker’s end, was run out by Indian off-spinner Ashwin when the batsman was found to have left the crease before the ball had been delivered......

It’s Auld Lang Syne as the Bellbirds frolic in the New Year - Doug Jones sums it all up |

t’s Auld Lang Syne as the Bellbirds frolic in the New Year
Doug Jones sums it all up
Bellbirds members Peter and Carmen James have the delightful practice of trotting on to the floor no sooner than the band strikes the first note. This time was no exception. Needless to say, within minutes, the James’s were no longer alone as many couples were lured to follow their trend. And the KOPYKATZ kept up the frenzied rhythm throughout until the Countdown to 2012 and after.

Loveable Sri Lankan Cheer Leader Percy
By Rex Clementine
The entire team rose up in respect when one of the greatest fast bowler to have played the game Sir Richard Hadlee paid a visit to the Sri Lankan dressing room during the first Test Match in Christchurch. While Hadlee collected a few autographs from the players, he apparently asked Chaminda Vaas how his great pal Percy Abeysekara was. Hadlee has been a great admirer of Percy and had even presented the Sri Lankan cheerleader some of his memorabilia after he saw the Sri Lankan’s knowledge and passion for the game. ‘Percy, don’t lose your voice, Sri Lanka needs it more than you,’ he’s supposed to have written in one of Percy’s autographs.

Christmas in the good old days By Noel Crusz |

CAN YOU REMEMBER THESE DAYS. THEY WERE SUPERB. WHAT FUN WE HAD GETTING PREPARED FOR CHRISTMAS. FORGOTTON DAYS
Christmas in the good old days
By Noel Crusz
Here I am on the ocean liner THE PACIFIC SKY in the Coral Sea on a
pre-Christmas voyage from Sydney to New Caledonia.
The memories of how we celebrated Christmas in Sri Lanka come back.
The house was painted, the walls white-washed with low black tar edgings
all round the rooms and the chairs were re-cushioned. The travelling
tailor came home, measured the rooms, and made the curtains on our old
Singer sewing machine.

Being Married to a Thomian by Shamila Jayasinha |
|
|
My journey through life with my Thomian began with this hunt. In an era when mobile phones, SMS, e-mails and Facebook were unheard of, the hunt was indeed a difficult task. Therefore, this hunt was meticulously planned out at a house located right opposite Bishop’s College (whoever designed it, bless his dear departed soul, certainly had the best interest of young Thomians in mind for it has a large balcony overlooking the grounds of Bishop’s College).
Date of the Hunt: 31st October 1981
Venue: Food Fair, Bishop’s College. ......

Light a candle that flicker in the wind
but will never die
For those who sigh in silence
and for those who cry
Light a Candle
For peace and for hope
light a candle for the ones
who need a home
For it won’t be lit
without that single spark
light one candle
when the night seems too dark.....

The Scream of the Babe
Oscar E V Fernando
Babe was in Mary’s womb: in a manger before the stable manger.
Warmth cocooned him in the womb as well in the manger.
Behold! No anguish on his face in both womb and on straw.
Care bestowed by this woman with love and with sanctified awe.
